So the other morning we witnessed a Garry Larson Far Side Cartoon in the making. This is a true story – while sailing in the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Visualize please …. sun rising, seas flat. A pod of dolphins approach us to starboard. So graceful, so beautiful; gliding along the surface, dipping below, then surfacing again … rhythmically for several minutes. Fast, very fast. Then suddenly one flies completely out of the water, followed by another. Judges give a perfect 10 to both. Fine execution! A third missiles out of the water …. tail first! Begins a rotation …. splat …. lands hard on its back and sinks into the sea. Judges give 2.5 for initiative – but the execution was pitiful!
Moments later we see the entire pod quickly leave with Herman rapidly swimming to catch up. Thought bulb over their heads …. “Thanks a lot Herman! Yeah, that was embarrassing. I hope those Yatistas didn’t see. Let’s get out of here.”.
