{"id":904,"date":"2014-05-28T09:42:35","date_gmt":"2014-05-28T16:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/easethemain.com\/?p=904"},"modified":"2014-06-07T09:50:21","modified_gmt":"2014-06-07T16:50:21","slug":"sea-cred","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/easethemain.com\/?p=904","title":{"rendered":"Sea Cred"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I never thought about the fact that I would be entering a new subculture when we left San Francisco\u00a08 months ago.\u00a0 Cruisers \u2013 the people who live on their boats (not the 70\u2019s lifestyle) \u2013 have a subculture all their own.\u00a0 Certain things are taboo (don\u2019t run a loud generator in a quiet anchorage at night), and other things are expected (keep your VHF radio on in said anchorage). There are even sub-sub-cultures within this community.\u00a0 One the whole, people who own sailboats stick together and people who own motor boats do the same.\u00a0 Mega yachts are in a category all their own.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know much about this sub-sub-culture because we haven\u2019t even borrowed ice, let alone been invited aboard one of these mammoths.\u00a0 (After all, those guys have a paid crew.)<\/p>\n<p>Within the sailboat community, cruisers with children, \u201ckid boats,\u201d are also a separate sub culture.\u00a0 There have been far too few\u00a0 on this adventure.\u00a0 Your experience level and where you have cruised will put you in different categories as well.\u00a0 We were the \u201cnewbies\u201d when we were cruising down the coast of Mexico without many nautical miles or months at sea under our belt.\u00a0 Now that we\u2019re in Florida, we\u2019re among the minority of sailboats who have \u201cCalifornia\u201d on their stern. We get a lot of comments such as, \u201cYou sailed all the way here from San Francisco?\u00a0 Through the canal?!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Those who have done some sailing know that it was a long haul to get from there to here, and we have instant respect.
