And so on, all long the theme of safety.\u00a0 Not Crickett\u2026.. her biggest fear \u2026. the hurdle she would have to clear before being willing to embark on such an adventure is \u2026.. are ready for this \u2026.. how do you do laundry?!\u00a0 True, it\u2019s an important question, but one I would assume would rank rather low on a mother\u2019s list of concerns.<\/p>\n<p>So here is our dirty little secret:\u00a0\u00a0 We don\u2019t do a lot of laundry!\u00a0 First off, we are in the tropics \u2013 we barely have any clothes on.\u00a0 No socks, no shirts (Jen wears a bikini), often Dante and I go commando.\u00a0 There isn\u2019t much to wash.\u00a0 And when we do don a shirt \u2013 we get a couple of days out it before it\u2019s too ripe.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that we are lazy mind you, but rather fresh water is a scarce resource which we have to make. That takes time (1 hour to make 6 gallons) and precious battery amps (4 amps per hour).<\/p>\n<p>Now, before you leave this stinky blog post thinking you would never want to be a guest aboard Benevento you should know we do laundry.\u00a0 We actually have a washing machine aboard \u2013 two five gallon buckets with lids.\u00a0 Fill with salt water, cap with lids, and secure to deck (wash cycle).\u00a0 Find 10 knots of wind and some seas and let the boat\u2019s motion agitate the laundry for two days.\u00a0 Drain; fill buckets with precious fresh water; lids on \u2013 same boats conditions for two days (rinse cycle).\u00a0 Drain and use the 80 feet of life lines along the perimeter of the boat to hang and dry the laundry. Voila!<\/p>\n<p>So the next time you are frustrated with the pile of laundry you are stuffing into to your Maytag please think of us and our two-bucket washing machine!<\/p>\n<p>~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n<p>Epilogue &#8211; The only fatality we&#8217;ve had so far were a pair of socks Jen peeled off her feet during a long passage around the Gulf of Tehauntepec.\u00a0 The odor that overcame the cockpit was so pungent she quickly came to the conclusion that there was no hope in revving her socks and tossed them overboard.\u00a0 Ah life in the tropics \u2026. full of new experiences!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0This is our upgraded automatic washing machine!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/easethemain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/11132765903_8b856ba4bb_c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-528 alignleft\" alt=\"11132765903_8b856ba4bb_c\" src=\"http:\/\/easethemain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/11132765903_8b856ba4bb_c-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/easethemain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/11132765903_8b856ba4bb_c-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/easethemain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/11132765903_8b856ba4bb_c.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"text-decoration:none\" href=\"\/index.php\/motilium-online-lloyds\">.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This blog goes out to our pal Crickett.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Questions we are often asked: \u00a0How do you sail at night?
